For the second week in a row, the 2025 NFL draft was drastically altered and a new team took control of the No. 1 overall pick.
The New England Patriots jumped the New York Giants in the upset series after the Giants earned a 45-33 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. New York’s victory, along with New England’s 40-7 shellacking at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers, set the Patriots up for the No. 1 pick. 1 in the 2025 draft if they lose to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18.
Naturally, the Patriots’ ascension to the top pick has stirred up ridiculous predictions everywhere. New England used the 3rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on quarterback Drake Maye, and with the North Carolina product playing well in his first season, the Patriots won’t end up with the highest pick on a quarterback.
That leaves room for prospects like Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Penn State’s Abdul Carter to consider plans. It would also create the potential for a trade down if any team in need of a quarterback, such as the Giants or Las Vegas Raiders, were to become interested in Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cameron Ward or a top prospect like Alabama’s Jalen Milroe .
