Merger lands in Sanford Health’s new location
The Marshfield Clinic is Sanford Health’s new health care delivery center that will continue to serve the communities of Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
In addition, the separate plans of each health organization, the Sanford Health Plan and the Health Insurance Plan, will continue the current operation under the same management report and control structure.

The organization includes approximately 56,000 employees, 56 hospitals, 4,500 providers, two fully integrated health plans, specialty pharmacies and nationally recognized research centers. Sanford Life Plan and Life Plan Protection will serve more than 425,000 members.
Marshfield Clinic leadership and governance

- Dr. Brian Hoerneman will continue to lead the newly formed region in his new role as regional president and CEO. He is a lifelong resident of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and a practicing emergency medicine physician.
- Sanford Health Plan and Health Insurance Plan will continue the current operation under the same reporting systems and control system. - Three Marshfield Clinic Health System Board members have joined the Sanford Health Board of Trustees. These new trustees are Dr. George Brown, Thomas Wenzel and Dr. Maureen McCausland.
- A regional board of community leaders is being formed to manage the operation and strategy of the Marshfield Clinic region.
The merger process continues to create a unified entity. Patients will continue to receive care from the same trusted providers in the same locations, with no immediate changes. Moving forward together under the parent organization of Sanford Health will bring more resources, expertise and innovation to patient care in communities across the rural Midwest.
